Overview
of Products and Applications
eLite Optoelectronics, Inc., (eLite) is a leading developer and provider
of high power indium gallium nitride light emitting diodes (InGaN
LEDs) which are used in various solid state lighting, mobile appliance,
signage, and automotive applications. In just two years the company
has developed technology to fulfill an emerging market demand for
large area (1mm square) LED chips which exhibit high light output
(~40 lumens) while consuming only 1 watt of energy.
US Technology Married to Asian Manufacturing
To avoid spending time and resources on constructing, running, and
maintaining a costly compound semiconductor production facility, eLite
utilizes a “fab-less” business model and takes advantage
of existing high volume InGaN LED production capacity in Asia. eLite’s
technology development is focused on creating reliable, high brightness
InGaN devices
and enabling higher manufacturing throughput, which combine to provide
significantly more value or “lumens per dollar” for its
customers in the US$3.7B high brightness(HB) LED market.
Core Competencies and Intellectual Property
eLite has applied for six US patents related to InGaN LED chip design
and device structure since 2003, and our first issued US patent is
#6,869,812. Our knowledge of GaN epitaxy growth processes, device
structures, chip designs, and market expectations has enabled us to
grow quickly into a leader in the high power LED industry. High
power devices require a highly reliable epitaxy structure and robust
chip design compared to traditional small GaN chips because the illumination
markets served by these products require long lumen maintenance under
severe operating conditions with high current density and thermal
stress. eLite’s depth of experience combined with a clear
focus on the high power market gives the company the ability to compete
effectively and provide customers with high volume products which
demonstrate industry leading performance.
